resuscitation (CPR), first aid, health and safety courses have traditionally

Adult
CPR and AED
Completion
of this 2 – 2½ hour course results in a 2-year
certificate. The course curriculum is specific to care of individuals
over the age of 8 and includes, but is not limited to, heart and lung
anatomy and physiology, risk factors for cardiovascular disease, signals
of a heart attack and stroke, and actions of survival. Participants
are provided with an opportunity
to practice care of the choking adult (conscious and unconscious); adult
CPR and rescue breathing; mouth-to-mouth and mouth-to-mask ventilation;
and use of the automated external defibrillator (AED).
CPR / BLS and AED
for the Professional Rescuer (The CPR / BLS Cram for the Busy Healthcare Professional™)
Completion
of this 2-hour course (3 – 3½ hours for new students
and lay rescuers) results in a 2-year certificate.
The course curriculum includes, but is not limited to, adult, child
and infant CPR and foreign body airway obstruction management; barrier
device use; automated external defibrillation; and special resuscitation
situations.

Basic
First Aid
Completion
of this 2½ hour course results in a 3-year certificate.
The course curriculum includes, but is not limited to, caring for
life-threatening emergencies; injuries to muscles, bones, and joints;
injuries to skin
and deeper tissues, such as burns, scrapes and cuts; sudden illness,
such as seizure activity; managing shock, bleeding control, and heat
and cold emergencies. An audiovisual tape presentation also covers
this information.
Emergency
Oxygen
The Emergency Oxygen program results in a 3-year
certificate. The course includes information on the definition
of emergency oxygen, oxygen safety, importance of emergency oxygen,
review of equipment operation and maintenance, oxygen delivery devices,
and rescue breathing.
Automated
External Defibrillation
The quick
and proper use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) is
a necessary
adjunct to CPR. In addition to learning the rationale for defibrillation,
course participants learn how to recognize unresponsive victims
and
victims in cardiac arrest; equipment operation, maintenance and precautions;
discussion of treatment possibilities; and hands-on practice. Completion
of the course results in a 2-year certificate.
